Anybody got a truck and some spare time this week? For real.
Okay, first off, our stuff is still on hold safe and sound at Jeune Lune after a royal pillaging of the space by the city of Minneapolis last weekend. Secondly, my friend Kelly, who to date, has been an absolute peach, has reached her point of ripeness and made a clear request of me today to have all items out of the space by week's end (Nov 22).
Seems a lot of people have been "special-requesting-her-to-death" and a combination of an 80 hour work week last week and a desire to take some time off next week have created a somewhat surprising bump in our road. Nevertheless, this is what we have to deal with. And here's catch number 2: she needs us to pick the stuff up during business hours.
So (deep breath) here is what I propose and what I would like your blessing to move ahead with...
Since it seems highly unlikely that our group will be able to collectively take a day off work with short notice, I've been trolling craigslist in hopes of finding two guys with a truck who are available this week. I'm thinking the cost of this will run approximately
$100-200 and I would work very hard to keep it on the low end of cost. I would then be able to meet the movers there and shepherd them back to the Soap Factory. I would also front payment, to be reimbursed later. We can then mail the check for payment of goods to Kelly as soon as they are available.
So here are my questions to you:
Is there another option for moving these materials from the space that any of you can come up with that might be more feasible?
Should we move ahead with my proposal is this possible for our budget?
Are we any closer with space information at the Soap Factory?
Does anyone have any leads on people with trucks that I might be able to call?
Thanks in advance for your quick response to these requests given our time restraints for our lovely lovely materials.

Hi - Unfortunately, this is a terrible week for me. Work is super busy and the only free night I have is tonight (Tues). However, if we needed to move stuff Friday morning, I may be able to help. (Anyone else available Friday morning AND have a truck?)
Given that I'm mostly MIA this week, I would support your proposal. However, if there is anyone else out there with spare time and access to a truck, that would be preferrable.

Two options for us:
Option #1: Rent a truck from Reddy Rents on Hiawatha in Minneapolis for $39.95 per day. 50 miles at no charge. Tank will arrive full and we would need to return full. 15" trucks get 7 mpg. Credit card would be required to secure truck. Several trucks available at this location for rental this week. Brian, the guy I spoke to on the phone, went to the art shanty thing last year and had a great time. He said parking ws a real challenge. Maybe we could make a parking map as sort of a public service.
If anyone is available to follow this plan (need at least 2 people. 4 to six would be ideal) let your voice be known. It is the more cost effective option.
Option #2: Outsource labor to Brian, whose info I found on craigslist. He quoted me $85 (cash) for pick up, moving and delivery. This cost may go up slightly because I did not learn about the stairs at the Soap Factory until recently. He is available to us on Thursday morning. If we proceed with this plan, I would meet him and supervise the work.
Option #3: Someone from within group procures a truck suitable for moving 8' to 10' long lumber and building materials. And a small group volunteers to move stuff and we are eternally grateful.
Regardless of which plan we move on, I will need to contact Kelly at Jeune Lune to confirm that someone will be there for pick up.
Thanks All - Andrea

I just got an email from Lesley about going tomorrow (Wed) to pick up stuff. I have a work event so I won't be able to make it ... but here are my notes about where we piled things so that nothing gets left behind:
1. Ground Floor (Scene Shop) - 2x4's, 4x4's and 2x6's on racks to the right of the door. Also, plywood, pressed board, acrylic and other sheet materials in one section of the racks on the back wall.
2. Basement (Main Room to the left of the elevator) - There is a dolly in the middle of the room that is piled with stuff, including sheet goods, plexi, currogated plastic, etc. We also get to keep the dolly itself.
3. Basement (first bay) - two 8' x 4' bases
4. Third Floor (Mask Room) - one 8' x 18" base, a bench and other miscellaneous items.
ps for anyone who goes to pick up stuff - I highly recommend bringing along a bunch of rags to wipe things down - this stuff is DUSTY! On a similar not, dress to get messy and bring work gloves.
