Shanty Pictures - 1/7/2009

Hey everyone! I stopped by the Soap Factory tonight and finished the latitude and longitude with the help of my painter pal, Chris.

I have to say that it was difficult to do the latitude lines without tape. The grain of the plywood mixed with not-so-good brushes made the lines thicker and less exact than I had hoped... BUT when you back up a few steps :) it looks pretty darn good.

Check out the pictures!

Construction Progress

Thursday night (12/18) was a success & the shanty is starting to take shape. The 8 lower panels have been attached to each other and the base - We have walls!

Saturday (12/20) was not as successful :( Due to weather and other circumstances, Emily & I arrived at the factory on Saturday around 11 and then (unexpectedly) had to leave at noon. If anyone else came before or after, I apologize for the inconvenience!

Construction Schedule?

Hi everyone,

We only have a few more days for construction. The first day we can move onto the ice is Saturday Jan. 10 & opening day is Saturday Jan. 16!

I sent a message via exco on 12/21 and I have only heard back from 2 people, so I’m sending this now through the mapshanty.com site.

Pictures of OUR shanty materials

Attached are pics of our material at the Soap Factory. These are from the first Juene Lune trip and consist of
2x4's, 4x4's, 2x6's, plywood, other sheet materials, plexi, currogated plastic, two 8' x 4' bases, one 8' x 18" base, and a door!

I'm uploading in color, but they're converting to B&W on the upload. Doh!

Materials @ Jeune Lune

According to Andrea's post, we are set for Wednesday at 6pm at Jeune Lune. This could be a great opportunity to get materials, so thank you for setting this up!
http://mapshanty.com/group/discuss/wednesday-november-12-jeune-lune-go

What do we do with the materials we buy on Wednesday?
We need to fill out a form with the art shanty crew in order to get our money. we'll get $450 right away. The remaining $250 will be held until the end of the project (when our house is off the lake!) Lesley & I will initiate that process, but it won't happen before Wednesday.

green shanty

how green can our shanty be, construction folks? Price permitting, what are some strategies for making it as environmentally friendly as possible?

Supply List

Per Andrea, below is a list of materials that we are looking into for the construction. This is not comprehensive! If you have a connection for free or cheap supplies, please let us know!

-- 2x4s or 2x6s to create a frame structure. These can be recycled from other set pieces.

-- Any sort of plywood, masonite, mdf or other material that could be used as a sheeting surface for interior or exterior walls.

-- insulation foam (because my goal is to keep my tongue from going numb from cold)

-- plexiglass or other suitable material for windows.
