Sound

The mission of this group is to collaborate on combining sounds and mapping for the Map Shanty.

WideNoise

My iPhone-savvy coworker at the Science Museum recommended that I share this site with you: WideNoise. It's an iPhone app that lets users measure decibel noise levels and then plot them on an interactive worldwide map.

sound mapping ideas

1) i got some tiny/chintzy recorders that i was thinking we could use to record the sound in each shanty and then have them displayed in our shanty(either in relation to a map, or some other way).

2) use the sounds of the shanty town to determine a walking route which is then mapped on paper or indicated outside by flags (or something)

3) chart the decibel levels inside our shanty and possibly other places

4) have a map on which people can draw/indicate favorite or important sounds in their life...maybe an overlay on the big Hudson map like transportation was thinking of?
